Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the African Union (AU) which is celebrated in Africa and many countries around the world. Africa Day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of the peoples and governments of Africa. In Australia, Africa Day is celebrated in partnership between Africa Day Australia, numerous African Australian community organisations, members of the diplomatic corps, government organisations, members of various political parties and numerous community organisations.
Following on the success of the 2015 Gala Dinner, which was attended by the who's -- who of Melbourne;
This year’s evening will be even be bigger and better. It will be a great night of pomp and ceremony, culminating the week long activities celebrating Africa Day in Victoria. A cross section of Melbourne’s Multicultural Community composed of business people, political and community leaders and the general public will mingle in the true African spirit of “Ubuntu”. Cost for the night of entertainment and delicous food $139.

The 2016 gala dinner featured the best of African performing arts, fashion and food. This event was an opportunity to celebrate and recognize successful Australian Africans. The Gala Dinner, which was attended by 300 guests including Members of African Diplomatic Corps, members of all three major political parties, academics, business and community leaders. It was a great night of pomp and ceremony, culminating the weeklong activities celebrating Africa Day in Melbourne.
