About Africa Day
Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the African Union (AU). The African Union, comprised of 54 member states, has brought together the continent of Africa to collectively address the challenges that it faces.
May 25th is African Liberation Day. Many African countries celebrate the hard-fought achievement of their freedom. Each year, Africa Day provides an opportunity to acknowledge the achievements of the peoples and governments of Africa. In Melbourne and across Victoria this day is also an opportunity to celebrate African culture and the contribution and successes of Australians from African dissent. Africa Day is celebrated all over the world in partnership between the United Nations, the African Union, Non-Government Organisations and community organisations. - http://www.africaday.info/
